WAVERLEY: PORTRAIT OF A FAMOUS ROUTE

WAVERLEY: PORTRAIT OF A FAMOUS ROUTE

The Waverley route from Carlisle to Edinburgh through Hawick and Galashiels was closed in January 1969 and is one of the most sadly missed of all lines closed during the Beeching era. This photographic album shows the line in all its glory during the 1950s and 1960s. Packed with memorable images, many published for the first time, showing steam locomotives working the line and the connecting branch lines, along with a small number of diesel worked trains. 3 maps. 192 b/w photos
