Heyday of the Bristol RE by Kevin Lane:
Although largely superseded by the Leyland National as the primary single-deck chassis for NBC operators, the Bristol RE was the most successful of the first generation of rear-engined single-deckers. Built for 20 years between 1962 and 1982 and kept in production until the 1980s primarily for sales to Ulsterbus and Citybus, the Bristol RE was a familiar sight with most ex-Tilling companies in the years prior to the creation of NBC and most NBC operators after January 1969. A small number also found their way into service with municipal operators and, as their use with NBC declined, with independent operators around the country.
Almost twenty five years after the last of the type were withdrawn from service, a handful still operate in public service on our roads and many have been preserved in private ownership.
This new book by well known and highly respected road transport author Kevin Lane provides a full colour portrait of the popular and well-loved Bristol RE in many guises and liveries across the country over its long career.
