DIESELS IN DEPTH: Classes 24/25

A total of 151 Class 24 and 323 Class 25 locomotives was built between 1958 and 1967. Designed to work both passenger and freight traffic, they were very successful, seeing service all over the BR network, part of the British railway scene for some three decades. By the late 1970s and 1980s, with the decline of traditional freight traffic and the introduction of second-generation DMUs, much of the work for which the two classes were designed was disappearing, leading to their withdrawal by the end of the 1980s.
Fortunately, a significant number survive in preservation, where their new owners have found them just as practical and useful as did BR when they were first introduced. This book is a useful reference source on these popular locomotives. It has detailed 4mm scale drawings and a great selection of both colour and mono photographs showing the considerable variety of liveries carried by these machines during their careers and notes the detail differences that marked out individual locomotives at various dates.
